Hijes del Sol y el Mar
Hijes del Sol y el Mar is a multimedia project that includes a mask, garment, a song, photography, (photography by Wilfredo Suárez) and performance. This part of the project is a mask made to be worn ceremonially during performances while the wearer dances bomba to the song called “Hijes del Sol y el Mar” written in collaboration with Colectivo Yeyé. To Elizabeth the project is a celebration of her Caribbean heritage. Using the neon colors to represent the glow of the sun and the sky during a sunset. The Taíno sun symbol is used to unapologetically claim the wearer's indiginous ancestry and allow the view to be able to connect with the character more. This technique of making an ambiguous character is used in game design which is what the artist studied during their BFA.
